It refers to the practice of ending your roleplay just before the sex - like in a film, when a sex scene literally fades out to a black screen before the actual sex happens. Needless to say, smutters don’t usually do it!

My advice is always to read as much of other people’s smut-work as possible. I recommend Archive of our Own or Fanfiction.net - there’s lots of excellent work there :) You can also research sex itself or watch porn, but I think reading is likely to assist you more.

My main advice to you if you’re just starting out would be to talk a lot to your partners - if they know you’re new at it, then they’ll be more likely to be friendly/easy on you :) Keep it varied and fun, and at a level of descriptiveness you’re comfortable with. Above all, enjoy :3
